We all have the power to illustrate plans and wishes for the life we want to have and be remembered for even in our last days and moments, we just have to start a conversation.

Story:

I was drawn to hospice following the experience with my grandmother, who suffered from stage 4 cancer and declined quickly. My grandparents always discussed their concerns and wishes but never provided written documents on how to carry out those wishes. My grandmother was a strong woman and never wanted much attention. My grandfather was tasked with carrying out my grandmother's wishes, as he thought she would want them, while tending to the concerns from family members. I was able to visit with my grandmother the weekend that she passed. With the help of hospice, she was able to be pass peacefully in her sleep. It brought me, my grandfather and family comfort to know she was no longer in pain and that she was able to pass in her sleep, just as she wanted, listening to the tune of her gospel music.   I thank hospice for that and it is why I continue to do the work that I do as a hospice social worker.  I am able to support and help families and their loved ones on hospice care. As a Quality Life Care Navigator, I educate patients and support them with their life planning, while helping to ease those important end of life conversations. We all have the power to illustrate plans and wishes for the life we want to have and be remembered for even in our last days and moments, we just have to start a conversation.
