Who Pays for Hospice

Hospice care is covered by Medicare, some AHCCCS plans and most insurance plans. As long as the individual meets hospice eligibility under Medicare guidelines, no one is denied care due to the inability to pay. In addition to physician, nursing, hospice aide, social work, chaplain, bereavement and volunteer services, the medications, medical equipment and supplies, short-term inpatient and respite care stays, complementary therapies such as physical, occupational and speech therapies are covered under Medicare as long as the need is related to the patient’s hospice diagnosis.
